PEDESTRIAN CUSCO, STREETS and CULTURE

 

Excursion organized like a walk through the historic city of Cusco that shows the city from another sight, mixing between streets and neighborhood of the colonial and Inca city, with museums and modern places where our ancient culture can still be lived.

 

San Blas Cusco SAN BLAS:
Picturesque colonial neighborhood and refuge of the manifestation of most important artists of our region, distinctive for its singular architectonic stroke con colorful streets and strait and its predominant church in the same square which carries its name and preserve the biggest artistic work like the pulpit sculpted en the best workshop of the era.

 

Hatunrumiyoq Cusco HATUN RUMIYOQ:
A place where nowadays is the location of the archbishopric of Cusco, old residence of the bishop Vicente de Valverde during the repartition of the solar from the Incas that originally was the palace from Inca Roca, in which the stone of the 12 angles can be appreciated.

 

Nazarenas Cusco NAZARENAS SQUARE:
Square of colonial style that counts with the presence of some of the important of the time like the, now, Monasterio Hotel and its church; on the other hand which was the convent of the Claretians order united by a semi-circular arch with the San Antonio Abad’s Monastery upon the “7 culebras” street.

 

Inka Museum Cusco INKA MUSEUM:
Important architectonic monument of the time which was the dwelling of the admiral Francisco Alderete Maldonado we would be able to see the valuable exposition of different rooms with many materials of the cultural manifestations of the Incas.

 

Main Square Cusco MAIN SQUARE:
The principal icon of our city because of the peculiar Spaniard style of the squares, this square was considered sacred during the presence of the Incas, an typical ritual scenery, of which now the Cathedral and the “Compañía” churches, that were dwellings and palaces of the lords Wiracocha and Huayna Capac.

 

San Pedro Market SAN PEDRO:
An old Inca’s neighborhood which still shows fragments of the original royal road to the Chinchaysuyo, distinctive for its supplies market of the city.

 

 

 

La Merced Cusco LA MERCED:
Convent of one of the first religious orders that arrived to Peru, distinctive for its custody of solid gold and its gemstones.

 

 

 

Loreto Street LORETO STREET:
It is and old Inca’s road or street (Inti Kijllu) which used to communicate the sacred square with the temple of the Sun, during the biggest ceremonies celebrated that started in the Koricancha (The Sun Ceremony) and finished in the Huacaypata (Main square).

 

ROMERITOS STREETS:
Old Pedestrian Street that communicated the Huillkacunac Kijllu with the Koricancha, the first one has been lately repaired giving it the appearance of the place like the description of the chronics of the XVI century.

 

KUSICANCHA:
The place where Tupac Yupanqui was born, the half-breed Garcilaso de la Vega says that this place corresponded to the huaca of the royalty Iñaki panaca. During the repartition of the solar by the conquerors it became Pedro Portocarrero’s ownership of which some of the architectonic works can still be appreciated.

 

Koricancha Cusco KORICANCHA:
It is an ancient Inca’s worship, house of the sun with a singular architectonic design. Is today the convent of the religious order of Santo Domingo.
